Hannah Bethel Returns for Saturday Concert

One of the Copper Country’s most accomplished musical expatriates will return to perform tomorrow night at the Calumet Theatre.

Hannah Bethel grew up in the Copper Country, and did her first performing here. At age 18, she moved to Nashville, which remains her home base.

Partly because of COVID-19 performance and travel restrictions, it’s been at least four years since Bethel has performed in the Keweenaw. She says she has a lot of new music for local fans to enjoy…

I just released a new record this year. It’s called “Until the Sun Comes Back Around.” So that’s all brand new music that you guys will be hearing, and I’ve written some more stuff after that.

That new album, and her song “Someone’s Woman”, have been included on the preliminary Grammy Award ballot in the Americana category this year…

I’ve been watching the Grammys since I was a little kid, and it’s pretty cool. It feels like a pretty good nod that I’m doing the right ting here, I guess.

Bethel says the eclectic Americana category fits her musical style…

“I’ve always kind of skirted around between country, rock, it’s a little bit rootsy, it doesn’t quite fall in the center of the road, so Americana has been a beautiful space for me to create freely.

Voting in the first round concludes Sunday, and the final nominees will be announced November 15th.

Bethel will appear tomorrow night at 7:00 at the Calumet Theatre. Local musician Chad Borgen will open the show. Tickets are available at CalumetTheatre.com.
