From the Hancock School District, Superintendent Dr. Steve Patchin announced he’s taking a $14,000 pay cut this year, so that district principals can get a bonus.
Patchin said most principals in the district pull double duty, and have done an outstanding job, during the lockdown and over the summer.
Uncertainty about impending budget cuts also factored into Patchin’s decision.
In other district news, the Hancock Promise has been extended for seven years.
The School District and Finlandia University exchanged property and Hancock graduates can attend Finlanda University for $2,500 a year.
The board also voted to move meetings to the multi-purpose room, which is bigger than the middle school boardroom, to accommodate social distancing guidelines.
They regretfully accepted resignations from temporary Summer food service workers Tim Driscoll, Leeann Mantta and Jo Rouleau, then hired Elizabeth Campbell and Carlie Ronis for the same positions.
Erica Theisen has been transferred from elementary special education teacher, to middle school English teacher.
Madeline Huhta is the new middle school special education teacher and Patrick Dwyer takes over as the middle school Social Studies teacher.
Chris Orlandi is a new high school math teacher.
