Hancock School District Update

In an email sent to parents, the Hancock School District is anticipating well over 80% of students to return for face to face learning on September 8th.

Approximately 10% of students plan on taking part in live streaming classes, but can return to school for face to face learning at any time.

A third option is virtual learning.

If a student chooses that option, they must remain with it through the entire semester.

Attached with the email, was a facial covering exemption request, for students medically unable to wear a mask.

The form must be filled out by a physician or physician’s assistant, and will be reviewed by the district.

Health policies were also covered in the email.

Should a student develop symptoms while at school, they’ll be directed to the office and placed under supervision, until a parent or guardian can pick them up.

They will not be allowed on the bus to go home.

Should a student or teacher test positive for COVID-19, the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department will be notified.

Students, staff, parents and teachers will be notified by email that someone in the Bulldog community has tested positive.

The person will not be named, as confidentiality is a priority and the district will comply with health department requests to provide a list of people the infected individual has been in close contact with within the last 48 hours.

The district will also follow guidelines as to when the infected person can return to school.
