The Hancock City Council could select a new mayor at a special meeting to be held Monday evening.
Former mayor and council member Paul LaBine recently resigned when he was appointed as Houghton County’s prosecuting attorney. State law prohibits anyone from holding both offices simultaneously.
Monday’s special session will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
The agenda calls for the council to select a new mayor from among its current members. Should current mayor pro-tem Kurt Rickard be elevated, and new mayor pro-tem will also be selected.
Comments from the public about all agenda items will be received at the start of the meeting.
Candidates to fill LaBine’s unexpired at-large term on the council will be introduced at the beginning of the meeting, but the agenda does not indicate that an appointment will be made.
The council will also address a couple of other issues at the meeting, including a temporary liquor license for an event to be held by the fire department September 9th.
