Hancock Plans Zoning Discussion

As promised, Hancock’s new zoning ordinance will remain a work in progress.

At last night’s regular meeting, city council members said a conversation will continue about some of the points raised at last week’s public hearing.

The first opportunity will take place at the city planning commission meeting next Monday. Those who have concerns about the ordinance are encouraged to join the session at 6 p.m. at city hall. Three council members are included on the planning commission. It’s the commission’s job to review any proposed changes, and forward recommendations to the full city council.

City Clerk Linda Kalinec reported that the absentee voting rate in the city increased in the recent primary election. Nearly 400 ballots were sent out, and 86 percent of those were returned. Kalinec said additional training sessions for local clerks have been scheduled in advance of the November general election.
