Hancock Planning Commission Endorses Co-op Zoning Change

The Keweenaw Co-op’s move to downtown Hancock took another step forward last night.

The Hancock Planning Commission gave its approval for the zoning permit needed for the grocer to move to the former Keweenaw Buick-GMC location on Quincy Street.

The existing building will be expanded to accommodate the co-op.

The commission also approved the latest updates to the city’s master plan, as presented by City Manager Mary Babcock. Babcock said that she hopes to publish an update about plan-related projects on the city’s website soon.

Action on a proposed ordinance governing installation of solar and wind power generators in the city was tabled, and will probably not be addressed until after the holidays. A copy of the initial draft of the ordinance is available for review at city hall.
