Hancock Planning Commission Begins Review of Co-op Plans

The Hancock City Planning Commission got its first look at the plans the Keweenaw Co-op has developed for its new location last night.

The Co-op has purchased the former Keweenaw Buick-GMC building on Quincy Street.

Two additions are planned. The largest would add 4,000 square feet to the retail area, expanding it to as much as 7,500 square feet. The basic site layout will remain the same. Customer parking will be provided off Quincy Street. Employees will park near the back of the building, adjacent to a loading dock.

Co-op officials said the basement will be used for product storage, and a lift will be added to move merchandise up and down.

The Commission took no action on the plan. Some details still need to be worked out, and members wanted time to review it.

The Co-op hopes to complete the remodel and relocate to the new location by late next summer.
