The city of Hancock is recognizing the great season of the Houghton-Hancock High School Varsity Girls Ski Team.
The team recently were named Division II State Champions after winning the 2018 Upper Peninsula Championship at Mount Ripley on February 22nd and then winning the 2018 MHSAA Division II State of Michigan Championships at Schuss Mountain in Bellaire on February 26th.
The team came from behind to beat out Notre Dame Prep on the final day of competition.
Hancock Mayor Lisa McKenzie congratulated coach Brian Henderson and his ski team at their regular meeting Wednesday.
The Houghton-Hancock High School Ski Team also won the Girls State Championship in 2010 and has had six runner-up finishes at the State Ski Finals in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2014 and 2016.
