Hancock High School Hosts Unified Champion School Basketball Game.

Hancock High School held its first ever Special Olympics Unified Basketball game this past Thursday.

The crowd included students, community members,  as well as coaches and athletes from Finlandia and Michigan Tech and local authorities.

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools use athletics to bring students with special needs, and those without, together.

The program fosters respect and dignity for students with disabilities and creates an environment where all students can bring forth change.

Two teams took the floor to have a good time, but they were also there to win.

The game featured all things that come with a high school basketball game, including the band, cheerleaders, referees and the concession stand.

Maren Rouleau Copper Country ISD Special Education teacher, thanked everyone who made the game happen, and hopes to play another Unified team, hopefully from the Escanaba area,  in the near future.
