Hancock Council Lauds Babcock, Endorses Water Park

The Hancock City Council showed its appreciation to City Clerk and Treasurer Mary Babcock in a tangible way last night.

Babcock has been filling in as city manager while Barry Givens is away on medical leave.

Given her workload, and the fact that her appointment has lasted longer than originally expected, the council voted unanimously to increase the extra pay she’s been getting from $1,000 per month to $2,000 per month.

Retired city manager Glenn Anderson has also been brought in to help, and is working about 10 hours per week.

The council endorsed a plan by businesswoman Melissa Goulette to establish a floating water park offshore from Hancock Beach. A small section of the beach would be made available for ticket sales and operations.

Goulette still needs to obtain permission from the Army Corps of Engineers to moor the water park in the Portage, which is a federal waterway.
