Hancock Council Hopefuls Answer Questions

The three candidates who wish to fill the empty seat on the Hancock City Council met with sitting council members and the public at a special session last evening.

The field includes Margo Pizzi and Zack Osborn, who finished behind Michael Lancour in the November election. Lancour declined to accept his seat, preferring to remain on the Hancock Board of Education, thus creating the vacancy. Mandy Lounibos, the third candidate, was not on the November ballot.

Comments from citizens at the top of the meeting included encouragement that council members choose one of the two who ran in November. Some residents spoke specifically in favor of Osborn.

During council questioning, Osborn detailed his vision for controlled growth in the city, and emphasized the need to communicate with small business owners. He described himself as “motivated to innovate.”

Pizzi, who was runner-up to Lancour in the November voting, emphasized her familiarity with the city and its culture, as a life-long resident.

Lounibos said neighbors had encouraged her to apply, and told council members that her experience in the medical field could assist the city in addressing health care issues.

The council will decide between the three at its regular meeting this evening.

The council will also consider accepting a new labor agreement with city employees represented by the Teamsters Union at tonight’s session, which begins at 6:00 at City Hall.
