Blight is a common issue in many upper peninsula towns and cities. And Hancock code enforcement has said taking care of the problem is a top goal for the year. Last summer city Code Enforcement Officer, Ashley Freeman took care of 75 cases around town. And set up a new system for ticketing, so that protocols can become standardized.
Code enforcement in Hancock will be a major aspect of becoming a redevelopment ready community. A lot of what freeman is doing in code enforcement is based on the city’s new zoning and master plan. The city council still needs to complete work sessions and a public hearing before the new zoning is implemented.
