Despite a dry February, Great Lakes water levels are still near record highs, and could continue to wreak havoc on Michigan’s Shoreline communities and infrastructure.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District, is reporting Lakes Michigan, Superior, Huron and Erie set new monthly records for February 2020.
The Great Lakes Basin had lower than usual precipitation, and several cold snaps led to increased evaporation, still, it wasn’t enough to lower water levels.
Significant erosion along Michigan’s coastline will continue, if water levels remain high.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is warning residents to expect water levels and damage similar to 2019.
