Grant Money Available For Emergency Response Equipment

The City of Houghton is pursuing grant money from Rural Development that is being made available to counties affected by last year’s flood.

City Manager Eric Waara said the money is to be used for emergency services and response equipment.

If approved, the city would be eligible for 55 percent of the cost of the equipment up to $50,000 per application that is submitted.

The Houghton Police Department is looking at getting a new patrol vehicle and the city is also considering equipment for the fire department and public works.

Waara said they will present a “wish list” at the next regular meeting of the council on August 14th.

Match dollars for the items would come from the Equipment Fund in the city’s budget.
