Grant Boosts White Pine Copper Refinery

Production at the White Pine Copper Refinery is poised to take a big step forward.

A $700,000 grant will help boost the project from pilot status to full production.

The facility is owned by White Pine Copper Refinery, Incorporated, and PM Power Group. It’s designed to salvage copper and other precious and rare earth metals from landfill material and other copper-rich waste. The reclaimed metals are expected to find a ready market, especially for use in electric and hybrid vehicles.

The expansion is also expected to grow employment at the plant to at least 35 people.

The money comes from the federal government, through the Northern Initiatives Community Development Financial Institution.
