A web app will be launched this week–the culmination of a summer’s worth of work by local students.
The students have spent the summer mapping the Village of Calumet, Calumet Township, and the Village of Laurium, as part of the GRACE program, which stands for GIS Resources and Applications for Career Education.
The program involved student interns from CLK and Houghton High Schools and was funded through the National Science Foundation, with help from Michigan Tech, the National Park Service and Eastern Michigan University.
The students are creating an open-access WebMap that anyone can use but it is especially designed to help community leaders and businesses with economic development, tourism promotion, and heritage management.
The Web app will be launched Thursday at 6:00pm in the CLK Commons and the public is invited.
