Governor Whitmer Visits The Copper Country Today

Governor Whitmer will be in the Copper Country today.

She’ll be in Calumet for a Deployment Ceremony.

She’ll also be discussing the surge in COVID-19 with local officials.

Todd Van Dyke asked her how close the U.P. was to taking a step back to Phase 4.

“There are a lot of factors we’re looking at. of course the positivity rate and number of cases. We’re also looking at hospitalizations because that’s an important aspect of making sure the health system can sustain itself. We know we’re on the cusp of flu season as well, which always yields a number of hospitalizations (inaudible) That’s why I think it’s so important that we’re monitoring all this, but we’re also taking action to keep people safe and finding where the outbreaks are happening.”

Whitmer also went on to say the state is better prepared, should the pandemic get worse, in terms of ppe and respirators and other needed medical equipment.
