Governor Whitmer Signs Executive Order For Prescription Drug Task Force

Having announced plans in her State of the State Address last month, to combat rising prescription drug prices in Michigan, Governor Whitmer has signed an Executive Order, forming the Prescription Drug Task Force.

The Force is made up of officials from several departments, including Health and Human Services and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

The price of prescription medications to treat such illnesses as diabetes, heart disease and depression, have doubled, over the last six years.

The new Prescription Drug Task Force, is charged with identifying new strategies and recommending legislative and administrative actions which would increase transparency in the pricing of prescription drugs.

Governor Whitmer said “Many Michigan families are having to choose between refilling prescriptions and paying rent.”

She hopes the new task force will take us closer to lowering costs for Michiganders.

The Task Force has until August 15th, to present their findings to the Governor.
