Governor Whitmer has extended her executive order, which gives pharmacists increased operational capacity, and increases access to prescriptions.
The extended order gives pharmacists the power to dispense emergency refills for up to 60 days worth of medications and requires insurers to cover up to 90days worth of refills during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pharmacists also have the authority to dispense COVID-19 treatments, in line with government approved protocols.
The order only applies to non-controlled substances.
Pharmacists can also substitute therapeutically equivalent meds, without prescriber approval, if there’s a critical shortage of the originally prescribed medication.
