Gladstone Man Drowns After ATV Drops Through Ice

A Gladstone man died over the weekend when the side-by-side ATV on which he was riding plunged through the ice on the Escanaba River.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Department was called out shortly after 7:00 Saturday morning.

One man riding the side-by-side was pulled from the water by nearby fishermen. The second drowned, and his body was recovered by the two deputies who responded. 

Officials caution that, even though colder temperatures have returned, the recent warm spell damaged the ice in some areas, leaving soft spots.
