Give Drugs the Boot moved to April 22

Give Drugs the Boot has been moved to Saturday, April 22 at 12 p.m. near Finlandia Hall on the campus of Finlandia University. The event, which is hosted by Calumet High School’s S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter, was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 1.

“Due to the huge increase in public interested for Give Drugs the Boot, we are moving the date back,” said Bridget Durocher, one of the event’s organizers. “One of the benefits of that interest has been additional families reaching out to us – many of whom have lost siblings, children or parents to overdoses. Having those people participate and telling their story is the reason we’re doing this.”

The main portion of the event will be a boot hockey tournament. People interested in participating will need to create teams of five players (anyone over the age of 8). Those who don’t play are also invited to come out and show support for a drug-free community.

In addition to the fun tournament, there will be coaches, athletes, academic leaders, students and community leaders on site to create social networking and educational opportunities for youth.

“Having strong role models, strong ties to school and healthy social peer groups are key protective factors in keeping our youth drug free,” Durocher said.
