HANCOCK — Hobbyhorses are all the rage in Finland, and organizers of the Heikinpäivä festival are bringing this exciting, family-friendly fad to Hancock this year.
You can create your own hobbyhorse anytime, anywhere, but what better time that at a community hobbyhorse workshop on Tuesday, December 4 at Sew Cranky in Hancock? From 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., shop owner and Finnish Theme Committee member Ginger Alberti will open her business to all budding hobbyhorse crafters. Some materials will be available; participants are encouraged to bring their own as well.
The hobbyhorse that’ll be created at this workshop will be used during several parts of the Heikinpäivä festival, including in the festival parade on January 26, as well as during the outdoor games and in the ever-popular “Bear Dance” that takes place on Quincy Green immediately after the parade. You might see hobbyhorses pop up in other locations as well – maybe at some downtown Hancock businesses or in your child’s school!
