Get A Free Health Screening At Health & Safety Fair

The Health & Safety Fair returns to U.P. Health System—Portage in Hancock Saturday.

This is the 10th year of the popular event and Health and Fitness Manager Angela Luskin says it will have many of the familiar features plus a few new ones.  “It’s an opportunity for people to get their total cholesterol, blood glucose, we’re doing vision this year, plus oximetry, and a handful of other free screenings, and then there’s always the massages and the free giveaways, the health food snacks,” Luskin said.

New this year are tours of the Operating Room.  There will be the ever-popular car seat clinic plus giveaways and activities for kids and free bike helmets.  It’s also a chance to talk with health experts and get a free health screening, which includes several tests but not the lipid profile.

Luskin said, “The cholesterol (test) that you get at the Health Fair is a three minute test. So it just indicates total cholesterol, and then we do blood glucose, too, which are two really good measurements to know. It’s kind of a good test. Maybe you’re not due right now, for some of you out there, and you can get that test and see if maybe you do need to go on for a full lipid profile.”

The Health & Safety Fair takes place from 10am to 1pm and the entire event is free and you do not need to register.
