The Copper Country League of Women Voters will present a program about redistricting in Michigan.
The event will be held at the Portage Lake District Library on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Martha Sloan will present “Redistricting in Michigan: Should Politicians Choose Their Voters?”
Also known as gerrymandering, the presentation will cover the historical background of redrawing national and Michigan districts, the effect of gerrymandering on selecting winners, a comparison of Michigan processes with those of other states, and recent court decisions.
Dr. Sloan will also review the proposal of Voters Not Politicians for the Michigan 2018 ballot and discuss the recommendations of the Michigan League of Women Voters.
The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.
