Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University have announced an expanded partnership to boost nursing education in the region.
The arrangement will allow nurses with associate degrees to complete their NMU Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum at the Gogebic campuses in Ironwood and Houghton.
The two schools have had an arrangement for completion of the BSN degree for several years, but students have had to finish their studies in Marquette.
GCC will receive funding from the state to administer the program, which aims to increase the number of bachelor’s prepared registered nurses in this region. The new program will be available to students beginning this fall.
The news comes on the heels of the closing of Finlandia University, which offered a BSN degree at its Hancock campus. Michigan Tech has expressed interest in absorbing and continuing the Finlandia nursing program.
