Gas Prices Jump After Refinery Fire

Gas prices have taken an upward spike in the Copper Country, and across the state.

AAA Michigan reports that the current price for a gallon of unleaded regular in the Marquette area has risen to $4.09. That’s 33 cents higher than last week.

The statewide average is at $3.97 per gallon, up 17 cents from a week ago.

The increase had been expected, following the closing of a BP refinery in Ohio, last week. Two workers were killed following an explosion and fire at the facility. It’s expected to be offline for at least a week.

The refinery supplies a significant amount of the gasoline distributed in Ohio, Michigan Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
