A fundraising effort has begun to help a family whose Hancock restaurant was badly damaged by fire a week ago.
The blaze at Gemignani’s Italian Restaurant is believed to have started in the restaurant kitchen in the early morning hours last Tuesday. A tenant in an upstairs apartment escaped safely, with their pets.
Paul and Emily Gemignani are the third generation of the family to run the restaurant since it was founded in 1982.
Whether or not the building can be salvaged, it could take years to rebuild the business. The Gemignanis have two young daughters.
