Friends Remember Hancock’s Deb Mann

Around 100 friends of Hancock Downtown Development Authority Coordinator and community leader Deb Mann remembered her yesterday at a gathering at Quincy Green.

Mann was killed Tuesday in an explosion and fire at her home. Her husband survived, and he attended the gathering, along with their daughters.

Hancock city council member John Haeussler said there was no job that was too big for her…

The most recent one that strikes in my memory was, Deb wanted to do a dog park. And when we found out how much that dog park was going to cost, I thought, “no way. It’s not going to happen.” And Deb said, “Oh, we’ll hit that and more,” and she was spot on.

Many who spoke echoed businessman Frank Fiala’s observation…

Deb’s trademark was her smile!

Nadija Packauskas of Yoopers for Ukraine said Mann had a gift for bringing people together…

That’s rare in this world, that you immediately see somebody, and they make you feel that you have purpose, and dignity, and value.

Packauskas counted Mann as a consistent supporter…

Every time I saw her, she would ask me about Ukraine. She was praying for Ukraine daily. The Ukrainians know her name. The joy of her heartbeat will go around the world.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. The O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home is coordinating.
