The Friends of the Portage Lake District Library will host a Downtown Houghton Scavenger Hunt as a FUNdraiser for the library on Saturday, August 12, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Funds raised at this event will support library programs such as Storytime for kids, the Summer Reading Program, and educational programs and events for the community.
The Scavenger Hunt is designed for teams of 1 – 4 people. Teams will be given a list of items and tasks to complete in 1.5 hours. Examples of tasks include taking a photo of your team by a boat, finding a map for kayaking, making a sidewalk chalk drawing, and photographing an item or a display in a store. Each task will be assigned a point value, and prizes will be awarded for various categories. Boundaries for the event are the bike path along the water, the north side of Montezuma Avenue, the Miner statue, and the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.
The entry donation for this family friendly event is $40 per team. Teams can register via email to folpldl@gmail.com or sign up at the Portage Lake District Library. Teams are asked to check in at the library between 10:00 – 10:15 a.m., bring a digital/phone camera, and sign liability waivers. Lunch will be served and prizes will be awarded between 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
