If you make less than $69,000 a year, a free file tax program is available at IRS.GOV, but sadly, not many people are using it.
A newly released audit from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, is blaming confusion, complexity and lack of awareness, for the low rate of taxpayers using the free service.
The Treasury Inspector General said logging onto IRS.GOV is the only way to make sure your tax preparation is free, as searching for “Free Tax Service” will often lead you to sites that claim they’re free, but will end up charging you.
