Free Smoke Detector Installations For City Of Houghton Residents

The Houghton Fire Department is participating in a state funded grant program that allows the department to install free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors into the homes of residents in the city.

The targeted customers for these detectors will be homes with children, elderly residents, and residents living in poverty, where data has found that the majority of fire-related deaths occur.

As part of the grant, the department is required to issue a free assessment of potential fire hazards in the home in hopes of preventing future fire deaths.

To take part in the program, contact the Houghton City Office at 906-482-1700 and ask to be placed on the list for installation. Residents will be asked to provide their name, address, and contact information so that the fire department can contact them to schedule installation.

All installations must be complete by August 1st.
