Several people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening in Portage Township. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened around 7:20pm on US-41 just north of Denton Road.
Authorities say an 89-year-old Mohawk man was attempting to turn north onto US-41 from a private driveway. The driver pulled out in front of a 35-year-old Hancock woman who was driving south on US-41.
The woman had her two daughters in the vehicle, one of whom had to be extracted from the vehicle by Hurontown Fire and Rescue. All four people involved in the accident were taken by Mercy Ambulance to UP Health System—Portage for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The Mohawk man was cited for failing to yield leaving a private driveway.
US-41 north of Denton Road was shutdown for a little over an hour due to the accident. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by MTU Public Safety, Hurontown Fire and Rescue, Mercy EMS, and Superior Service.
