Former U.P. Priests Charged With Sexual Abuse

Two more former Upper Peninsula priests are facing criminal sexual conduct charges. 

74-year-old Gary Allen Jacobs of Albuquerque, New Mexico, served in Ontonagon and Dickinson Counties between 1981 and 1984. In Ontonagon County, he’s being charged with six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child between the ages of 13 and 16, and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child between the ages of 13 and 16. In Dickinson County, Jacobs faces one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under 13 years old. He was arrested Friday in New Mexico and will face extradition to Michigan.

52-year-old Roy Joseph has been charged in Marquette County with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The incident allegedly occurred in February of  2006. Joseph currently lives in India.

The charges are part of the ongoing investigation by the Michigan Attorney General’s Clergy Abuse Investigation Team.
