The former Hancock High School on Quincy Street is being considered for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places by the State Historic Preservation Review Board.
The National Register of Historic Places is the federal government’s official list of properties deemed worthy of preservation because of their importance in American history and culture.
The Hancock City Council voted to support the nomination at their regular meeting Wednesday.
Hancock’s historic district ends at City Hall so the old school was not included in the district.
Finlandia University is the current owner of the property and the historic designation could open up opportunities for redevelopment grants at the location.
