The State of Michigan is down one drone, following an eagle attack recently.
Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy officials say the drone was being used to survey erosion damage along the Lake Michigan shoreline near Escanaba when it was set upon by a bald eagle.
The eagle needed less than a second to rip off a propeller.
Having determined that the drone was not lunch, the eagle flew off. The stricken drone fell into the lake. Workers searched for the drone, but could not find it.
Officials figure the eagle mistook the drone for prey.
Either that, or it’s just mad that people from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy think that EGLE spells “eagle.”
