The problem at the main event arena Houghton County Fairgrounds is not going away.
Fair board member Will Dorman informed the Hancock City Council that flooding remains a concern with the fair being just over a month away.
The arena had just begun to dry out when last week’s heavy rain produced more flooding.
Because of damages to the drainage system on the hill, water is pouring onto the fairgrounds causing damage to the parking lot and draining into the arena, where the fair holds their monster truck shows and motorbike races.
Dorman explained that efforts are being made to erect a temporary barrier to protect the arena and asked the city to consider digging a ditch to further divert the water.
Without a diversion ditch, Dorman said even a moderate rain could jeopardize the outdoor entertainment for this year’s fair, which will be held August 23rd through the 26th.
