Fire Damages Calumet Township Home

Fire damaged a home in Calumet Township yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 54927 M-26, between Laurium and Lake Linden, just after 2:00. An apparent chimney fire had spread to the roof. Heavy smoke hindered the effort to extinguish the blaze. Officials say the smoke may have been produced by burning spray foam insulation.

Along with the fire damage, moderate damage from smoke and water was reported to the second floor of the home.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic was limited on M-26 for about 90 minutes.

Calumet Township firefighters were assisted by the Laurium and Hubbell fire departments, Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies, Michigan State Police troopers, and Mercy EMS.
