Finlandia Introduces Need-Based Scholarships

Finlandia University has introduced two new scholarships.

University President Philip Johnson says the need-based scholarships will build on the foundation of their established merit awards…

The Western Great Lakes Scholarship will provide up to $4,000 for students from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota or Illinois. Students must have a high school grade point average of 2.75. The award can be renewed for up to four years.

Finlandia University President Dr. Philip Johnson

The Rise Together Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for financially eligible Michigan residents. When combined with federal and state scholarships and grants, it can cover a student’s entire tuition costs for the first two years.

Additional scholarship programs could help students complete a four-year degree, and some assistance with the cost of books may also be available.

Johnson says the goal is to provide more opportunities to students from lower and middle class families who may think they can’t afford a private college…

Funds to underwrite the scholarship will come from both within and without the university…

And Johnson says there’s no limit to how many students can take part…
