After two weekend cleanup efforts, the Copper Harbor Trails Club is expecting a record turn out this year for the upcoming Experience the Keweenaw celebration set to take place this weekend.
“The Copper Harbor Trails Club is partnering with the Portage Health Foundation and a number of other community organizations around the Keweenaw area to put together a whole weekend of family friendly activities,” said Ben Ciavola, President of the Copper Harbor Trails Club.
Originally named “Ride the Keweenaw” and geared exclusively toward the cycling community, the planning committee began adding additional features as well two years ago, now reaching a broader array of participants.
“Which expands from our biking focused event to include hiking, paddling, fishing and other events throughout Baraga, Ontonagon, Houghton and Keweenaw Counties,” he added.
This year’s official event schedule contains nearly 30 individual gatherings taking place over the four county area.
“So that will be starting out on Friday night at the Adventure Mine with hiking and biking and a cook out, followed by events all across the Keweenaw area on Saturday. Then everything moves up to Copper Harbor on Sunday. There is an Enduro mountain bike race and food and music,” said Ciavola.
This is the 8th annual happening of the festival.
“People can find out more information both at our website, copperharbortrails.org and at experiencethekeweenaw.com,” said Ciavola.
