Final Phase Of Hancock Road Reconstruction Project Set To Begin

The snow has melted and it’s time for construction season.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is completing the reconstruction of US-41 in Hancock, which began last year.

In the final phases of the project, MDOT will invest $2 million to reconstruct Front Street between Reservation Street and the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, as well as the southbound US-41 connector ramp to eastbound M-26.

Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction on Front Street between the Lift Bridge and Reservation Street.

The Lift Bridge will be restricted to operating on the hour, with no lifts for pleasure craft allowed at the peak hours of 8 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m.

Work is scheduled to begin tomorrow and be completed by July 21st.
