Federal Grants Will Help Fund Local Purchases

Some federal money will assist entities in Houghton County in purchasing some new equipment.

Grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will provide:
• The City of Hancock with $25,100 to help purchase a law enforcement vehicle.
• The City of Houghton with $23,900 to help purchase a a law enforcement vehicle, and $58,800 to help purchase an excavator for the Public Works Department.
• Houghton County with $53,600 to purchase a pavement roller and asphalt soil gauges for the Road Commission.

The money comes from the USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program.
