Today is Equal Pay Day, noting the discrepancy that still exists between salaries paid to men, compared to those paid to women.
A recent study by the American Association of University Women indicated that the women earn 83 percent of what men do, on average. The disparity is higher for women of color.
The placement of the day on March 14th – 50 days into the new year – marks the length of extra time that women must work to earn what the average man made in 2022. It represents a tiny bit of progress. Last year’s Equal Pay Day was March 15th.
Several groups will be sponsoring an informational session today between 11:30 and 12:30 at the Husky statue on the Michigan Tech campus.
Supporters of equal pay for women are encouraged to wear red.
