EPA Talks Torch Lake Superfund Site & Deed Restrictions Wednesday

An open house to discuss the Torch Lake Superfund site will be held Wednesday at the Lake Linden-Hubbell School from 5:30-7:30pm.

The event is being hosted by the US Environmental Protection Agency to discuss how residents can protect themselves and their neighbors from contamination left after a cleanup project at the site.

The EPA will explain why deed restrictions are necessary and will address owners’ concerns about impact on property values.

Deed restrictions ensure that future owners are made aware of remaining stamp sands, and help to prevent inadvertent exposure to contamination.

EPA cannot remove a property from the Superfund list until deed restrictions are in place.

Once a property is cleaned up and delisted, its value may increase.
