The Copper Country Recycling Initiative invites the public to an informational meeting this week to learn about new opportunities for electronics collection and recycling.
Steve Noble from the Sustainable Materials Management Unit of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality will provide a brief overview of Michigan’s electronics collection and recycling program and be available to answer questions.
The UP Electronics Recycling Network has a certified and registered electronics recycler and transportation system to participate in the Michigan program.
The meeting will cover:
- The expectations of an electronics collector location
- The logistics of the UP Electronics Recycling network
- The materials that can be accepted and those that cannot for electronics recycling
- Anticipated costs associated with recycling the covered electronics
- Grants that might be available to support the operations of the collectors
The meeting will be held Wednesday at 5pm in the Community Room of the MTU Lakeshore Center in Houghton.
