Legislation to name the Baraga post office after pioneering woman legislator Cora Reynolds Anderson has advanced to the United States Senate.
The bill is sponsored by U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow. It was approved by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which Peters chairs.
Anderson was the first woman elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, and the first Native American woman elected to any state legislature.
