Edick, Court to Reign Over Winter Carnival

Winter Carnival royalty was crowned Saturday night.

The Royalty Pageant was filled with laughs and fun, along with some serious questions for the eight contestants. The talent competition included cooking demonstrations, stand up comedy, dance routines, painting, and even a poetic homage to 1913 Copper Strike leader Big Annie Clemenc.

Emily Calhoun was named Second Runner-Up. Calhoun is a third year Chemical Engineering student from Trenton, Michigan.

Josie Edick – from MTU Blue Key Society Live Stream

First Runner-Up was Lilly Bolliger. Bolliger is a fourth year mathematics student, and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant into an Air Force Intelligence career following her graduation this spring. She is from Wayland, Michigan. Bolliger also won the Audience Choice Award.

This year’s Royal Majesty is Josie Edick, a fifth-year chemical engineering major from North Muskegon. She’s involved in the Society of Women Engineers.

This year’s Congeniality Award went to Lila Johnson, a third-year statistics student from Grand Rapids.

The new court will reign over this year’s Winter Carnival. While preliminary events have been underway since late January, the annual celebration officially begins Wednesday with the All-Nighter snow statue competition, and the conclusion of the month-long competition.

Other highlights include the Stage Revue on Thursday, an appearance by comedian Mikey Day on Friday, the Winter Carnival hockey series against Bowling Green Friday and Saturday, and the Torchlight Parade and SnoBall Saturday night.

This year’s theme is “Tasty Foods for Wintry Moods.” See the full schedule here.
