Driver Uninjured in Fiery Lake Linden Crash

An 18-year-old driver escaped injury Sunday morning in a fiery single-vehicle crash just south of Lake Linden.

State police officers report that, around 8:00, a northbound pickup truck crossed over the center line on M-26 near the 27th Street intersection. The truck just missed the brick signpost for the Drive-Through Depot, knocked down the air conditioning units on the road side of the Depot’s building, then continued across the parking lot, and slammed into a building owned by the R.J. Dion Construction Company.

The truck then caught fire, destroying it, and heavily damaging the Dion building.

The driver was able to exit the truck, and run to safety. Investigators determined that he had lost consciousness while driving. He was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, and held at the Houghton County Jail. His name will be released after his arraignment.

M-26 was closed for about an hour, while Torch Lake Township firefighters battled the blaze.
