Driver Freed From Rollover Semi Accident In Hancock

Last night around 10:10pm, the Hancock Police Department was dispatched to an accident where a semi had rolled over and the driver was trapped inside.

The semi, owned by A & L Iron and Metal out of Ishpeming, was traveling southbound on North Lincoln Drive (US-41) and rolled off the roadway on a sharp corner on the south side of Ethel Avenue.

After about an hour, the 51 year old man was freed from the vehicle and taken to U.P. Health System—Portage before being airlifted to Ann Arbor for treatment of his injuries.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

A Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer is expected to be assisting with inspecting the semi later today.

Assisting on the scene were the Hancock Fire Department, Hurontown Fire Rescue with the Jaws of Life, Houghton Police Department, MTU Public Safety, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Mercy Ambulance, Superior Service Towing, and a Michigan State Police Accident Investigator.
