Dr. Jill Kalcich brings expertise in functional medicine to patients at Aspirus

LAURIUM, Mich. – Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics proudly welcomes Jill Kalcich, MD, to their excellent family medicine team. Dr. Kalcich is board certified in family medicine and functional medicine. As a functional medicine doctor, she helps patients get to the root cause of disease through natural interventions such as nutrition and lifestyle changes. Dr. Kalcich is accepting new patients at Aspirus Laurium Wellness in Laurium.

A Lake Linden native, Dr. Kalcich is a familiar face in the community. She owned and operated Keweenaw Holistic Family Medicine in Calumet from 2008 to 2016. Prior to that, she provided patient care alongside Bonnie Hafeman, MD, at the Laurium Wellness location.

Dr. Kalcich is an Associate Clinical Professor for Michigan State University’s Colleges of Human Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the Institute of Functional Medicine. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Central Michigan University. She completed her family medicine residency at Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Institute for Functional Medicine.

Dr. Kalcich said functional medicine changes the focus of healthcare from only addressing symptoms of a problem to discovering the root cause and taking steps to restore balance. Through a comprehensive look at health history and current state of health, she works collaboratively with her patients to identify natural interventions, such as changes in diet, exercise and lifestyle that can lead to improved health outcomes. Functional medicine empowers patients to take an active role in their own health.

“For example, if someone is having chronic skin rashes it could be that they have a nutrient deficiency, digestive problems, food intolerances or a combination of contributing factors,” said Dr. Kalcich. “What we’re looking at is correcting the underlying causes of their symptoms to restore health.”

Dr. Kalcich is thrilled to join Aspirus and continue to expand her practice for the community. She’s looking forward to getting involved in the community by providing outreach and education about the many health benefits functional medicine has to offer.
