Downsized Pine Mountain Music Festival Arrives

A scaled-back Pine Mountain Music Festival begins this week.

This year’s theme is “Stories in Music.”

In contrast to previous years, when the festival included symphony concerts, opera productions and high-profile guests, this year’s events are much more limited.

The Bergonzi Trio will return for its annual visit, with a performance Saturday at the Rozsa Center.

The popular UPStarts concert, which features rising regional artists, will take place next Tuesday at the Rozsa. This year’s artists are singer Julia Janowski of Marquette, and violinist Ben Campbell of Escanaba.

The popular children’s concerts featuring the Bergonzi Trio will be combined with a puppet workshop, with assistance from Michigan Tech’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The local presentation will take place Friday at the Portage Lake District Library.

All of the programs will also be repeated in Crystal Falls and Marquette.

The schedule also includes some performance workshops and impromptu pop-up concerts.
